M'art'chin

M'art'chin is a collective art exhibition I curated that took place at the Cercle Saint-Hubert in Marchin, Belgium in 2022. My intention was to create something radically different from the urban, conceptual art I usually make by presenting in a rural region that I do not know well an exhibition of traditional painting and sculpture that is not motivated by a far-fetched idea, even if the absence of a concept is a concept in itself. I used all of your typical village exhibition's codes: the play on words in the name, the graphic style of the poster, the choice of the venue and the artists, the scenography, the bar's menu... I spent a good weekend with great people. I just wish there were more visitors. The artists who showed their works are Claude Hardenne, Riquet Faure, José Gietka, Olivia Létin, Titabstract, Ariane Therasse, Sabine Depienne, Sabine Gheerts, Pablo Salazar and Bernadette Monseur. I also shot some footage of the event with my old camcorder. One evening, I followed two graffiti writers painting in the Marchin region. You can hear them cutting out a fence and spray painting in the dark. In the last sequence, one of the artists who took part in the exhibition can be heard uttering insults in English in his sleep.
