Big Oil T-shirts
In the world of art and particularly music, T-shirts have often been used as tools of provocation. Sex Pistols' Sid Vicious rocking a T-shirt featuring a swastika, Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose wearing one with Charles Manson's face and Ye appearing with a Burzum one are famous examples. Some bands have made a real business out of it, like Marilyn Manson in his early days, Cradle of Filth or Cannibal Corpse.
Today, even if racism and crime are sadly still a thing, global warming, the exhaustion of the finite resources on which our so-called modern societies rely and the collapse of biodiversity are much greater threats for the living. This is why last year I created a mini-series of T-shirts on which the logos of three of the largest oil groups on the planet are printed. These companies provide us, the inhabitants of rich countries, the means, by feeding the world's machinery with fossil fuels, to destroy our environment at a catastrophic rate while releasing large quantities of greenhouse gases into the air. In doing so, we’re causing the sixth mass extinction of life on Earth. What could be more shocking than that?
Folks who bought these shirts can rock them again this summer and scare the hell out of decent people!
